We teamed up with Pancreatic Cancer Action, Cystic Fibrosis Trust, Neuroendocrine Cancer UK and Guts UK to deliver a free evening webinar on the PERT shortage guidance.

Designed for GPs and pharmacists, at this event we discussed what to do if a patient is running low or cannot get PERT. There was also an opportunity to ask your questions to a panel of specialists.

We teamed up with senior specialist HPB dietitian, Mary Phillips, for a fourth year in a row for our annual educational event on pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (PERT) and pancreatic cancer.

In light of the current intermittent PERT shortages across the UK, Mary also shared guidance on what to do if a patient is running low or cannot get PERT.

Managing difficult conversations - Part two | 21st March 2024 | Virtual


We began by discussing how to manage conversations around depression and anxiety. We shared guidance on opening up conversations around spirituality and sex and relationships and tips on supporting patients with these. Finally, we explored how to talk to children about cancer, and how to open up conversations around finance.

Managing difficult conversations - Part one | 14th March | Virtual


We began by exploring best practice when it comes to breaking bad news, how to break the barrier of people being resistant to having conversations around palliative care, and how to have conversations with patients and their loved ones on end of life and support for dying well. We also discussed whose responsibility it is to have these conversations.

New developments in pancreatic cancer - Non-surgical treatment | 5th March 2024 | Virtual


We began with an overview of SABR, the use of this treatment for patients with unresectable pancreatic cancer and an update on clinical trials in this area. We also had an overview of focus ultrasound, its potential treatment for people with pancreatic cancer, and current trials.

During this event we found out everything you need to know about genomic medicine and the impact on your practice. We also explored the logistics, challenges, risks and benefits including when to refer and who to refer, and the impact on treatment options.

New developments in pancreatic cancer - Early diagnosis | 13th February 2024 | Virtual


During this event we explored new developments in the early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.

We began by looking at a study exploring what support GPs need to start using new pancreatic cancer tests as soon as they become available. We then heard about the world’s first breath test for pancreatic cancer. To finish, we found out about the development of a decision risk tool for early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer among new-onset diabetes in UK primary care.

Diabetes Specialist Nurse and Education and Research Associate, Vicki Alabraba and Laura McGeeney, Pancreatic Specialist Dietitian joined us to deliver a session on Diabetes and pancreatic cancer.

Vicki and Laura took a deep dive into type 3c diabetes discussing the potential causes, characteristics and diagnosis, how it differs from type 1 and 2, therapeutic and nutritional management, impacts on treatment options and managing these, as well as managing diabetes at the end of life.

They provided a detailed, grounding knowledge on nutritional assessment, nutritional management, pancreatic exocrine insufficiency (PEI) and pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (PERT), and type 3c diabetes.

Symptom management of pancreatic cancer | 26th October 2023 | Virtual


This free online event explored symptom assessment and management for people living with pancreatic cancer.  We looked at: nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, fatigue, pain, thromboembolism, gastric outlet obstruction (GOO), biliary obstruction, ascites and lymphoedema.
