Government U-turn on publication of 10 Year Cancer Plan – our statement
Pancreatic Cancer UK's Director of Support, Research and Influencing, Anna Jewell, comments on the government's decision to scrap the 10 Year Cancer Plan for England
Today, the UK Government has scrapped the planned publication of the 10 Year Cancer Plan for England and replaced it with a new Major Conditions Strategy.
Anna Jewell, our Director of Support, Research and Influencing, said:
“We’re incredibly disappointed to hear the government has U-turned on its decision to publish the long-awaited 10-Year Cancer Plan for England.
Hundreds of people affected by pancreatic cancer took the time to share their experiences of treatment and care as part of the government’s consultation last year. And thousands more joined our #NoTimeToWait campaign that called for the plan to be urgently published and deliver desperately needed change for pancreatic cancer. Today, these people’s voices have been ignored.

“While the government has said it will publish a Major Conditions Strategy that includes cancer instead, we’re very concerned this will be watered-down and won’t go far enough to properly tackle pancreatic cancer and the other less survivable cancers.
Survival rates for pancreatic cancer have barely changed in fifty years. It can’t be ignored any longer. That’s why we’re calling on the government to give pancreatic cancer and the other less survivable cancers the attention they deserve, to tackle the deadliest common cancer once and for all.”
